China, India agree to ease border tensions

BEIJING - China, and India have agreed to take steps to ease tensions along a disputed stretch of their border in Ladakh.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian described recent media reports of 40 Chinese victims in the conflict as "false news."


Meanwhile, Indian media reports said modalities for the disconnection of all areas of friction in eastern Ladakh were also discussed at the meeting and will be pursued by both sides.

It is pertinent to mention here that at least 20 Indian soldiers were killed in a confrontation last week on the Current Control Line (LAC).

Previously, China said that repeated Indian provocations and violations of LAC and the commander-level agreement, in addition to the violent attack on Chinese negotiating officers and soldiers, triggered fierce physical conflicts that caused casualties.
