Senate panel approves Zindagi Tamasha for screening

The Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has given the green signal for the selection of Zindagi Tamasha from Sarmad Khoosat. Objections raised against the film have been withdrawn.

PPP Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, who chairs the panel, visited Twitter on Tuesday to announce: "We have found nothing wrong with it. The censorship board has our go-ahead to launch post-COVID. Detailed reasoning to follow later.

Earlier this year, the Sindh Film Board and Censor banned the film three days before its release.

The board issued a notice, explaining that it had previously reviewed and approved Sarmad Khoosat's directorial film, but has now been informed that it may create unrest within a segment of society.

"If the previously titled film is released for public display, it may create unrest within the religious segment of society and may deteriorate and be detrimental to the peaceful circumstances in the country.

Therefore, to avoid such a situation, it is recommended not to release the film for public display until the Sindh Film Censors Board makes a new decision. "The notification said. The decision to ban the film followed a similar move by censorship authorities in Punjab the next day.

Directed and co-produced by Khoosat and his sister Kanwal Khoosat and written by Nirmal Bano. Zindagi Tamasha is a bilingual film, shot mainly in Punjabi. Along with Hassan and Suleman, the cast includes Ali Qureshi, Samiya Mumtaz, and Imran Khoosat.

The plot of the film revolves around an old man named Rahat Khan who has a confession to make. The entire film is based on the reaction that follows Rahat Khan's statement. The film shows the real side of Lahore and has no filters to sweeten and portray an unreal image of our society.

In October 2019, Zindagi Tamasha received the Kim Ji-Seok Award at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival in South Korea.
