TikTok star Jannat Mirza was criticized for wearing a cross-shaped pendant around her waist in a series of videos she posted on Instagram. She apologized to the Christian community for the videos after they created an uproar, but she was unwilling to accept criticism from veteran actor Bushra Ansari.
Ansari found the video and commented: "Aik dur fitteh mun to Banta hai, in jaahil stars par afsos. Na Islam ka pata na Kisi aur religion ka [curses are for these disappointing and ignorant stars. They do not know Islam or any other religion .] "
Mirza did not appreciate the comments at all and responded to Ansari saying, "You cannot judge anyone without knowing the facts!"
Questioning Ansari's logic, he said: "Aap Islam ki kese Baat Kar Sakti Hain, kese Kisi pe tanqeed Kar Sakti Hain jab AAP khud dance karti hai, khud singing karti hain, khud dramas karti hain? or criticize the religiosity of another person when you dance, sing and do dramas yourself?] "
But this was not all that Mirza had to say. She uploaded Ansari's comments to her Instagram and gave him another piece of her mind. "This is not good at all!" she said a second time.
In a subsequent video post on Instagram, Mirza addressed her offensive video more directly. She acknowledged her mistake and made an apology. She clarified that the chain in question was received as part of a public relations package by a brand and that she made the video without actually verifying the product.
"My intention was never to hurt anyone, I found out through the comments section of my videos after posting them that the chain that I wear on my waist has a Christian cross and I deleted the videos instantly. It was my fault and I am accepting my mistake, " he said. However, a complaint against her has already been filed with the FIA.
Since Ansari's comment went viral, other TikTok stars, apparently friends of Mirza, have been apologizing to the veteran actor. The problem with Mirza's argument is that it is completely flawed. Ansari's "dancing, singing, and acting" has nothing to do with his comment on his religion. His comment could have been better worded, but the view was that people should educate themselves about religion, and not just their own. Mirza's immediate reaction seemed to be to attack Ansari for "dancing, singing and acting", which is a strange argument. Does she think that since Ansari is an actress, she has no right to comment on religion?
Anyone who identifies with religion has the right to comment on it, regardless of their profession. Mirza started strong with the immediate removal of the video and apology, but attacking Ansari and belittling her for her profession lowered the level of her response. If she had wanted to refute what Ansari said, and she had the right to do so, she should not have put her profession on it.
