A high-level meeting held under the presidency of Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday reviewed the internal and external security situation and expressed the resolution that the country's sovereignty would be protected at all costs.
High-ranking officials attended the meeting, including Defense Minister Pervez Khattak, Chairman of the Joint General Committee of Chiefs of Staff (CJCSC), Nadeem Raza, Chief of the Army General Staff (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Admiral of the Naval General Staff (CNSA) Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Chief of the Air General Staff Chief of Air (CASAC) Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan and Director General of Intelligence of Inter-Services (DGISI) Lieutenant General Faiz Hamid.
Participants agreed that Pakistan believes in peaceful coexistence with its neighbors. However, the "will and capacity" to defend the people and territorial integrity were also expressed.
Expressing serious concern about the continued human rights violations by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir, the meeting urged the international community to take note.
The meeting also paid tribute to the bravery and coordinated efforts of law enforcement agencies that successfully thwarted the recent attack on the Pakistan Stock Exchange.
'PSX is under attack by weapon and grenade'
Four terrorists attacked the Pakistan Stock Exchange in Karachi earlier this week, as a result of which a policeman and three stock exchange security guards were martyred, while the four terrorists were killed in retaliation by forces.
Armed militants arrived at the PSX complex in a sedan and attempted to enter from the parking lot side, according to initial reports and eyewitness statements. They were seen carrying backpacks and carrying automatic weapons in an amateur video captured by an eyewitness.
The equipment, weapons, and ammunition recovered from them indicated that they had come prepared for a long siege.
After being unable to enter the complex, the militants launched a weapon and grenade attack and attempted to storm the building while opening indiscriminate fire. They were hired by published security personnel and failed to advance amid the intense exchange of fire.
The entire town was later cordoned off by the security forces and a search and clean-up operation began. The PSX was evacuated and the car that the militants arrived at was stopped.
