Nation remembers Allama Iqbal on his 143rd birth anniversary

The 143rd anniversary of the birth of the philosopher Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal is celebrated today with national zeal and fervor.

The day began with a changing of the guard at the Iqbal Mausoleum in Lahore, where a posh contingent of the Pakistan Navy took over guard duty for the Pakistan Rangers, Radio Pakistan reported.

The commander of the Pakistan Navy station, Commodore Naimatullah Khan, was the main guest on this occasion. He left a wreath of flowers at the mausoleum and offered a prayer. He also noted his comments in the guest book and paid tribute to the national poet.

Messages from the Prime Minister, President

President Dr. Arif Alvi emphasized the need to follow Iqbal's teachings on Islam and his "Khudi" philosophy that promotes self-respect and human dignity.

"Iqbal was a great benefactor to the Muslims of the subcontinent; he envisioned the idea of a separate homeland for them and his dream was later translated into reality."

In his message, Prime Minister Imran Khan underlined individual and collective responsibility to build the nation while exploring Iqbal's thoughts.

"Allama Iqbal not only dreamed of Pakistan but also reflected on the problems it would have to face after its creation," said the prime minister. "Iqbal's vision continues to be a guiding force to overcome problems such as sectarianism and extremism."

He urged the nation to focus its energies on transforming Pakistan under the visions of its ancestors.
