Philosopher and poet of the East, Allama, the 83rd anniversary of Dr. Muhammad Iqbal is commemorated today to pay tribute to his services to the Muslims of the subcontinent.
Iqbal was a visionary poet, who conceived the idea of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the subcontinent, which eventually materialized in the form of Pakistan.
As a child, Iqbal was trained by teachers like Syed Mir Hassan, a scholar who gave his nature a philosophical color.
He was born in Sialkot on November 9, 1877.
Iqbal's training as a philosopher came from professors he encountered during his days as an undergraduate and master's student in philosophy in the subcontinent. Later, he continued with the subject and moved abroad to obtain a doctorate.
His poetry is still remembered, most of which had messages for the youth. His work has been translated into many other languages.
Although it was he who conceived the idea of a separate Muslim state on the subcontinent, he could not see the independence plan materialize when he passed away in 1938.
