KARACHI: The National Command and Operations Center (NCOC) held its first meeting in Sindh on Saturday, which was co-chaired by the agency's president Asad Umar and NCOC national coordinating lieutenant general Hamood-uz-Zaman.
The meeting, which was held at the House of the Chief Minister, was attended by Asad Umar, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, the Minister of Health Sindh Dr. Azra Pechuho and the Minister of Education Sindh Saeed Ghani, as well as others.
The prime minister informed the NCOC that Sindh was able to perform 12,000 COVID-19 tests in a single day, although the number had decreased in recent days.
CM Murad said the NCOC had done well, adding that the Sindh government had imposed targeted blockades on coronavirus hotspot areas across the province.
The prime minister revealed that the provincial government had established two hospitals in Karachi for patients with COVID-19. Analyzing security precautions for the city's livestock markets, he said slaughtered animals can only be purchased at government-designated locations.
"The purchase and sale of animals on the streets have been banned," he told NCOC.
Umar said the main objective of bringing the NCOC meetings to the provinces was to ensure that the fight against the pandemic improved. "
The minister highlighted how joint efforts by the provinces are needed to control the coronavirus while acknowledging that the work done by the provincial governments had helped control the pandemic.
Umar said that the federal government was working alongside provincial governments in the battle against COVID-19.
NCOC formulates SOP for 700 livestock markets across the country
The NCOC had formulated the Standard Operating Procedures on Monday regarding livestock markets and the imposition of a smart blockade in various parts of the country before Eid-ul-Azha.
At a meeting chaired by the NCOC president, the session was informed that the plan for congregational prayers will be the same as Eid-ul-Fitr's.
The forum was informed that around 700 livestock markets will be operating throughout Pakistan on the eve of Eid-ul-Azha, for which the necessary guidelines have been sent.

The NCOC president had said that local administrations should ensure that the livestock markets operate from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Among other guidelines, it was decided that the detection of those who entered the markets was mandatory.
People would be asked to make sure they wear face masks and practice social distancing.
Officials will ensure that only a designated number of people are allowed to enter at a time to avoid overcrowding.
