'Joker' was the most complained about movie of 2019: BBFC

'Joker' was the most reported movie of 2019, confirmed the British Film Rating Board (BBFC).

The BBFC, in its annual report, revealed that the DC source film, which Joaquin Phoenix portrays as an alternate performance of the Clown's Prince of Crime, received 20 complaints related to the film's 15-year rating.

The complaints argued that the BBFC should have rated the film as 18, due to its 'violence and tone', while a small number of people felt that it should have been banned entirely.

While 'Joker' features scenes of strong violence, including stabbings, gunshots, and accompanying blood, the BBFC claims the film does not "stop at imposing pain or injury in a way that requires an 18".

If 20 official complaints don't sound like much, it's because it isn't. In total, the BBFC only received 149 complaints last year, which represents less than half of what was done in 2018.

For comparison, Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight', which was released in 2008, received over 300 complaints. If this tells us anything, it is that the public seems less disturbed by blood and violence today.

Even though director Todd Phillips clearly states that there are no plans for a Joker sequel, it appears that his $ 1 billion runs at the box office may have prompted a rethink.
