The Academy Awards have reportedly relaxed their decision that nominees should attend in person this year after negative reactions and concerns regarding quarantine requirements.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), which organizes the Oscars, appears to have now ruled that virtual appearances will be allowed. It comes after film distributors also worried about quarantine requirements on both sides of the trip, which could drive up costs.
The Academy faced heavy criticism for its earlier move, as it had made the in-person attendance of foreign actors, crew members, and filmmakers mandatory amid a pandemic.
According to the news report, all of the nominees have been contacted directly and invited to participate in a Zoom conversation with the show's producers during which they will be provided with updates on the show, including options to participate remotely.
The Oscars are moving forward with plans for the big show on Sunday, April 25.
